Stratford CT Fall Events 2026: Your Main Street Calendar

The biggest event on Stratford's fall calendar is run by the town. The last one is run by volunteers. Both happen at 5800 Main Street.

On Saturday, October 17, the Great Pumpkin Festival fills Boothe Memorial Park from noon to 4 p.m., with Sunday, October 18 as the rain date. Eight weeks later, from December 11 to 14, the Boothe Homestead opens its decorated rooms for Holiday at the Homestead, the annual fundraiser of the Friends of Boothe Park. Between those two weekends the calendar moves south down Main Street to the Town Hall Green. Near the train station, a new restaurant has opened and a state rail project has broken ground.

These events don't all come from one organizer. Two groups share the season. The town's Celebrate Stratford program puts on the large public events. A nonprofit volunteer group looks after the park's historic buildings. Knowing which group runs which date makes the season easier to follow.

The Season on One Road

Every dated event below has a Main Street address. Here is the order:

Date Event Location Organizer
Sat., Oct. 17, noon to 4 p.m. Great Pumpkin Festival Boothe Memorial Park, 5800 Main St. Celebrate Stratford, with Friends of Boothe Park volunteers
Sat., Nov. 7, step-off 11 a.m. 4th Annual Veterans Day Parade Town Hall, 2725 Main St., to Academy Hill Celebrate Stratford
Fri., Nov. 27, 2 to 6:30 p.m. Holiday Market and Tree Lighting Town Hall Green, 2725 Main St. Celebrate Stratford
Dec. 11 to 14 Holiday at the Homestead Boothe Homestead, Boothe Memorial Park Friends of Boothe Park

Boothe Memorial Park and Town Hall sit about 3,075 street numbers apart on the same road. The town hosts the crowd events. The volunteers host the events that happen inside the old buildings. On October 17, the one date both groups share, they work side by side.

October 17 Is a Shared Day

On the town's Great Pumpkin Festival page, the schedule is crowded: a pumpkin carving contest, a costume parade, food, a DJ, an inflatable maze, hayrides, a magic show, face painting, characters, and the park's historic buildings. Public Safety Day is part of the festival this year, with safety demonstrations, a Touch-A-Truck and giveaways. The town page lists the pumpkin carving contest as sold out, so that part of the day is already full.

The "historic buildings" on that list come from the second group. Celebrate Stratford hosts the festival, and the Friends of Boothe Park open the park's historic buildings during it. According to the town, the Friends are a nonprofit volunteer group. They maintain the park's museums, artifacts and rose gardens, and they run its tours and school programs. The park itself belongs to the town.

The timing matters. The Friends post a summer schedule for the Homestead: Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Sundays from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day. Their site says Sunday hours come back on Memorial Day, May 31, 2027. Town pages describe the tour season differently. One gives May through October. Another lists museum tours from June 1 to Labor Day. By the Friends' own posted schedule, the regular Homestead hours ended weeks ago. That makes the October festival one of the few fall days when the buildings are open on a set schedule.

The grounds stay open the whole time. The Friends list the park as open daily from sunup to sundown. On a weekday in late October, the Rose Garden and the outside of Putney Chapel are there for anyone walking the park. Volunteers created the Rose Garden and presented it to the town. Putney Chapel is the park's chapel for weddings and funerals, and the Friends list visitor access as limited and by schedule.

November Moves to Town Hall

For most of November, the calendar sits at 2725 Main Street.

The 4th Annual Veterans Day Parade steps off from Stratford Town Hall at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 7. It travels 0.7 miles to Academy Hill. Check-in starts at 10 a.m. The town's parade page invites all veterans and veteran organizations to march. It also welcomes other military or patriotic entries, and it offers rides to veterans with limited mobility. Registration to march closes October 30 at 4 p.m. That deadline is less than three weeks away, so groups that plan to march have little time left to sign up.

Three weeks after the parade, on the day after Thanksgiving, the same lawn holds the Holiday Market and Tree Lighting. The market runs from 2 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 27, and the tree is lit at 5 p.m. Both events belong to the Celebrate Stratford calendar, which the town announced in April.

Two weeks after the tree lighting, the calendar returns to Boothe for its last event.

December Belongs to the Volunteers

Holiday at the Homestead is the Friends' own event. On the Friends of Boothe Park event page, every room of the Boothe Homestead is decorated for Christmas. Decorated trees and wreaths are sold through a silent auction, and the money supports the Friends. Admission is $5, and children get in free.

The schedule has six sessions over four days, and most are in the evening:

  • Friday, December 11: 6:30 to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 12: 1 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 13: 1 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m.
  • Monday, December 14: 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Four of the six sessions start after dark, including both weekday nights, so Friday and Monday each have an evening session. The Friends' current event list includes only two fall dates, this one and the October festival. It lists no separate Halloween or haunted event. So the volunteer group opens the Homestead's doors on the first date of the season and close them on the last. The town's events fill the weeks in between.

Meanwhile, at the Other End of Main Street

South of Town Hall, near the station, the changes this fall are businesses and construction rather than events on a calendar.

Patch reported on September 4 that Deep 6 Arcade had opened that week at 2505 Main Street. It is inside Station House Square, directly across from the Stratford train station. The site had earlier been considered for an IHOP. It combines a restaurant, a bar and classic arcade games. The founders restore arcade machines, and in a post quoted by Patch they said they have spent five years repairing, servicing and restoring machines "for amusement parks, private collectors and traditional arcades all around the world."

The tracks across the street are a construction zone now. On July 27, Governor Lamont and Mayor Chess broke ground in Stratford on TIME-1, a $1.6 billion, three-phase project to modernize parts of the New Haven Line. According to the town's announcement, Phase 1 covers about three miles of track between Bridgeport and Stratford and costs $340.7 million. The work includes new catenary structures, which power the trains, along with track and signal upgrades and a replacement of the Longbrook Avenue Bridge. The announcement did not give closure dates or a detour route for the bridge work. Anyone who drives Longbrook Avenue will need to watch for a separate traffic notice from the town or the state Department of Transportation.

The station work comes later. Phase 2 is expected to start in 2030 and includes track and platform upgrades at Stratford Station, accessibility improvements, and new lighting and emergency power. Phase 3 is expected to start in 2031, and all three phases are scheduled to finish in 2035. The state expects trains in some sections to reach 90 miles per hour, up from today's top speed of 70. Together with other projects, it estimates the work will cut about 25 minutes from the trip between New Haven and New York.

Questions about a historic property near Boothe Park or a home close to the station should go to someone who has followed this stretch of Main Street for years. The John Hackett Team works across Stratford and can walk you through how these changes affect a specific address.
